Moved hintfilter documentation to the correct place and cleaned it
up. Added a note at the start of the syntax documentation about the
behavior of the hint parsing to warn users of possible unexpected
behavior. The hint parsing could really use some refactoring to make it
more manageable which is why the preliminary fix version of the bug will
be 2.4.
The process of stopping a service will not prevent new connections from
being created. The documentation needs to be extended so that the meaning
of `accepted` is explicitly and clearly stated.
MaxCtrl now supports explicit paths for certificates and optional server
certificate verification. This allows testing by using a self-signed
certificate with the server certificate verification turned off.
Using commas instead of spaces prevents a the misinterpretation of
commands as hostnames. If the `--hosts` option was given just before a
command, it would consume the commands as arguments to the `--hosts` list.
Updated documentation generation script and regenerated documentation. Now
all command documentation is generated by using the output of the `help`
commands.
The `add user` and `enable account` commands create fully privileged
administrative users like they did in 2.1. This makes the addition of
read-only users backwards compatible.
Updated and expanded the documentation on administrative interface
users. Added entries into the release notes as well as the upgrading
document about relevant changes between 2.1 and 2.2.
The users are now stored as an array of JSON objects. Legacy users are
automatically upgraded once they are loaded and a backup of the original
users file is created.
Removed the password parameter from the `remove user` maxadmin command as
well as all of the relevant functions. Requiring that an administrator
knows the password of the account to be deleted is not a sound requirement
now that, at least in theory, two types of accounts can be created.
The feedback system wasn't used and was starting to cause problems on
Debian 9 where the libcurl required different version of OpenSSL than what
MaxScale was linked against.
A set of the core MaxScale parameters can now be altered at runtime. This
set consists of the authentication timeouts and the admin interface
authentication. Other parameters either can't be modified due to internal
limitations or aren't sensible to modify at runtime.
The document explains how the module commands are used and gives an
example how they could be used.
Also fixed a few references to the old command names.
The document wraps paragraphs at 80 characters and uses triple backtick
bloks for code sections instead of indentation.
Also fixed a few typos and reworded some parts.
Added a document that describes the module command system and added the
necessary information in the dbfwfilter documentation.
The release notes also point to the newly created document.
If a master once had slaves and is in the stale status, it will not retain
this status after a restart. Without storing on-disk information, the
stale master status cannot be deduced by looking at the master
alone. Because of this, the user should be able to manually enable the
stale master status.
It's now possible to use both a Unix domain socket and host/port
when connecting with MaxAdmin to MaxScale.
By default MaxAdmin will attempt to use the default Unix domain
socket, but if host and/or port has been specified, then an inet
socket will be used.
maxscaled will authenticate the connection attempt differently
depending on whether a Unix domain socket is used or not. If
a Unix domain socket is used, then the Linux user id will be
used for the authorization, otherwise the 1.4.3 username/password
handshake will be performed.
adminusers has now been extended so that there is one set of
functions for local users (connecting locally over a Unix socket)
and one set of functions for remote users (connecting locally
or remotely over an Inet socket).
The local users are stored in the new .../maxscale-users and the
remote users in .../passwd. That is, the old users of a 1.4
installation will work as such in 2.0.
One difference is that there will be *no* default remote user.
That is, remote users will always have to be added manually using
a local user.
The implementation is shared; the local and remote alternatives
use common functions to which the hashtable and filename to be
used are forwarded.
The commands "[add|remove] user" behave now exactly like they did
in 1.4.3, and also all existing users work out of the box.
In addition there is now the commands "[enable|disable] account"
using which Linux accounts can be enabled for MaxAdmin usage.

The CDC_users.md document was not linked to and was in the wrong place. It
