257836a755 Track collation versions for indexes.
Record the current version of dependent collations in pg_depend when
creating or rebuilding an index. When accessing the index later, warn
that the index may be corrupted if the current version doesn't match.

Thanks to Douglas Doole, Peter Eisentraut, Christoph Berg, Laurenz Albe,
Michael Paquier, Robert Haas, Tom Lane and others for very helpful
discussion.

8a2121185b Remove the option to build thread_test.c outside configure.
Theoretically one could go into src/test/thread and build/run this
program there. In practice, that hasn't worked since 96bf88d52,
and probably much longer on some platforms (likely including just
the sort of hoary leftovers where this test might be of interest).
While it wouldn't be too hard to repair the breakage, the fact that
nobody has noticed for two years shows that there is zero usefulness
in maintaining this build pathway. Let's get rid of it and decree
that thread_test.c is *only* meant to be built/used in configure.

Given that decision, it makes sense to put thread_test.c under config/
and get rid of src/test/thread altogether, so that's what I did.

In passing, update src/test/README, which had been ignored by some
not-so-recent additions of subdirectories.

a228cc13ae Revert "Allow on-line enabling and disabling of data checksums"
This reverts the backend sides of commit 1fde38beaa0c3e66c340efc7cc0dc272d6254bb0.
I have, at least for now, left the pg_verify_checksums tool in place, as
this tool can be very valuable without the rest of the patch as well,
and since it's a read-only tool that only runs when the cluster is down
it should be a lot safer.

1fde38beaa Allow on-line enabling and disabling of data checksums
This makes it possible to turn checksums on in a live cluster, without
the previous need for dump/reload or logical replication (and to turn it
off).

Enabling checkusm starts a background process in the form of a
launcher/worker combination that goes through the entire database and
recalculates checksums on each and every page. Only when all pages have
been checksummed are they fully enabled in the cluster. Any failure of
the process will revert to checksums off and the process has to be
started.

This adds a new WAL record that indicates the state of checksums, so
the process works across replicated clusters.

fdb34824e0 Add PG_TEST_EXTRA to control optional test suites
The SSL and LDAP test suites are not run by default, as they are not
secure for multi-user environments. This commit adds an extra make
variable to optionally enable them, for example:

make check-world PG_TEST_EXTRA='ldap ssl'

c3a0818460 Install TAP test infrastructure so it's available for extension testing.
When configured with --enable-tap-tests, "make install" will now install
the Perl support files for TAP testing where PGXS will find them.
This allows extensions to rely on $(prove_check) even when being built
out-of-tree. Back-patch to 9.4 where we first started to support TAP
testing, to reduce the number of cases extension makefiles need to
consider.

49148645f7 Add a test framework for recovery
This long-awaited framework is an expansion of the existing PostgresNode
stuff to support additional features for recovery testing; the recovery
tests included in this commit are a starting point that cover some of
the recovery features we have. More scripts are expected to be added
later.

732b33f8ae Fix up .gitignore and cleanup actions in some src/test/ subdirectories.
examples/, locale/, and thread/ lacked .gitignore files and were also
not connected up to top-level "make clean" etc. This had escaped notice
because none of those directories are built in normal scenarios. Still,
they have working Makefiles, so if someone does a "make" in one of these
directories it would be good if (a) git doesn't bleat about the product
files and (b) cleaning up removes them.

This is a longstanding oversight, but since this behavior is probably
only of interest to developers, there seems no need for back-patching.

22dfd116a1 Move test modules from contrib to src/test/modules
This is advance preparation for introducing even more test modules; the
easy solution is to add them to contrib, but that's bloated enough that
it seems a good time to think of something different.

Moved modules are dummy_seclabel, test_shm_mq, test_parser and
worker_spi.

(test_decoding was also a candidate, but there was too much opposition
to moving that one. We can always reconsider later.)
