</image> found in the Main Toolbar to display the floating toolbar. Then click the <emph>Insert Chart</emph> icon. The mouse pointer will change to a cross-hair symbol with a small chart symbol.</paragraph>

<paragraph role="paragraph" id="par_id3147303" xml-lang="en-US" l10n="U" oldref="6">In the spreadsheet, drag open a rectangle defining the initial location and size of the chart.</paragraph>

<paragraph role="paragraph" id="par_id3145419" xml-lang="en-US" l10n="U" oldref="7">As soon as you release the mouse button, a dialog appears in which you can make further entries. </paragraph>

<paragraph role="paragraph" id="par_id3149562" xml-lang="en-US" l10n="CHG" oldref="9">If you want to switch horizontal and vertical axis you can "tilt" the chart: With the chart still selected, click <emph>Data in Columns</emph> or <emph>Data in Rows</emph> icon on the Main Toolbar.</paragraph>

<paragraph role="paragraph" id="par_id3148645" xml-lang="en-US" l10n="U" oldref="30">Suppose you placed the chart in your $[officename] Calc spreadsheet in the background, and now you are wondering how to select it for further editing. </paragraph>

<paragraph role="paragraph" id="par_id3152376" xml-lang="en-US" l10n="U" oldref="55">Open the <emph>Show Draw Functions</emph> floating toolbar and click the <emph>Select</emph> arrow

</image>. Now you can click on the chart to select it.</paragraph>

<paragraph role="paragraph" id="par_id3156283" xml-lang="en-US" l10n="U" oldref="31">In a $[officename] Calc chart, you can move a data series forward or backward. You can arrange the series in such a way that the lowest 3D bars are placed in the foreground and the higher ones in the background. To change the arrangement in the chart, use a command in the context menu of a data series or choose <emph>Format - Arrangement</emph>. The corresponding cell ranges in the $[officename] Calc spreadsheet will not be rearranged.</paragraph>

If you have not selected any data in a $[officename] Writer table, choosing <emph>Insert - Object - Chart</emph> inserts a chart containing sample data.</paragraph>

<paragraph role="listitem" id="par_id3152960" xml-lang="en-US" l10n="U" oldref="29">You can change the sample data values by double-clicking on the chart and then choosing <link href="text/schart/01/03010000.xhp" name="Edit - Chart Data"><emph>Edit - Chart Data</emph></link>. If you want to change the values of a chart obtained from selected cells, you have to change the values in the table cells. If the chart is in a text document, press F9 to update the chart.</paragraph>

<paragraph role="listitem" id="par_id3153714" xml-lang="en-US" l10n="U" oldref="47">An easy method to change the numbers in a chart is <emph>drag-and-drop</emph>: select any table cell range, then drag and drop them at the chart. The chart updates with the new values.</paragraph>

<paragraph role="listitem" id="par_id3150042" xml-lang="en-US" l10n="U" oldref="23">Modification of chart data is also possible if you, for example, have copied a chart from a $[officename] Calc document into a $[officename] Writer document and now double-click the chart in the $[officename] Writer document. Remember, however, you are only editing the copy and not the original document.</paragraph>

<paragraph role="paragraph" id="par_id3163726" xml-lang="en-US" l10n="U" oldref="11">You can change the type of chart any time. When you double-click on the chart and choose <emph>Format - Chart Type</emph>, a dialog appears, presenting you with various types to choose from.</paragraph>

<paragraph role="paragraph" id="par_id3146314" xml-lang="en-US" l10n="U" oldref="12">Try out the different options in the <emph>Chart Type</emph> dialog. You can also switch between 2D and 3D representation. With the <emph>Columns</emph> chart type you can select a <emph>Combination Chart</emph> of lines and columns.</paragraph>

<paragraph role="heading" id="hd_id3158444" xml-lang="en-US" level="3" l10n="U" oldref="48">Opening Binary StarOffice Chart Files<comment>UFI: this is for StarOffice 5.2 binary format. So use no variable.</comment></paragraph>

<paragraph role="paragraph" id="par_id3152776" xml-lang="en-US" l10n="U" oldref="49">There is a special read-only mode to open a binary Chart file that was saved by a previous version of StarOffice. Double-click the file in your file manager or enter the full name including the .sds extension in the Open file dialog. You can then look at and print the chart.</paragraph>

<paragraph role="paragraph" id="par_id3151214" xml-lang="en-US" l10n="U" oldref="50">To retrieve or edit the chart data of a StarOffice Chart .sds file, follow these steps:</paragraph>
